Field service
The visit should write the invoice.
Work is booked in a diary. Parts are guessed from memory. Technicians update status in a chat. Invoices are written days later from whatever survived. That is three objects. It should be one.

Monday is not the job
If invoicing still starts from incomplete notes on Monday, the visit was never the object. First-time-fix becomes a story you tell, not a list you can open. The office spends the morning asking who is where, which is a scheduling failure wearing a radio.
Custom field service operations software should make completing the job in the system faster than the group chat. Completing on site writes the bill. The office does not rebuild it.
Van stock is a rumour until the doors open
A loan unit goes out and does not come back onto a record. The next job is promised a part that is already on another van. Someone ‘just knows’ what is in the rack behind the seats. Until they open the doors.
That is not a parts personality. It is a visit that does not hold stock. Dispatch without van contents is a diary. A diary cannot stop a second promise.
What belongs on the visit
- Dispatch with assignment, SLA, and clashes on the day board
- Van stock visible against the open job
- On-site notes, photos, and completion sign-off
- Invoice written from the completed visit
- Owner lists for outstanding jobs and outstanding money
Technician, parts used, photos, sign-off, invoice. The same record the day board already pretends to be. Not a job board with a PDF attached.
A live model
Northfield is the typical field system we build: visit, van, invoice. It is a model, not a named client case study. Open it. Complete a job in the menu. See whether Monday still needs the chat.
Workshops have the same split with a key drawer instead of a van. The object is still the job. Field days fail when the visit is not the invoice.
How we start
A twenty-minute discovery call. We watch how jobs, parts, and paperwork move — including the WhatsApp exceptions. Then a written scope. If a packaged field product already covers the crew, we will say so.
If jobs, parts, and paperwork are still three habits, book a twenty-minute call. We start with the visit.
